Benita Decape Johnson, 78, of Lakewood, Colorado, left our earthly plane on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James K. Johnson of Denver, and son, Danilo Decape of the Philippines.
Benita was born April 3, 1937, in Bantayan, Philippines in the Province of Cebu, to parents Severino Decape and Concepcion Caravelle, both deceased.
She met her husband, James, an Air Force serviceman, in the Philippines where they were married in 1961. They moved to the US in 1962, moving frequently throughout the early years of their young marriage. They lived in Oklahoma, Connecticut, Maine and New York before settling down in Denver, Colorado, in 1971 to raise their family.
Benita worked for more than two decades as a Central Supply Technician for Denver General Hospital (now Denver Health), and retired in 2000. In 1976 she earned her GED and was naturalized as a US Citizen. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She loved watching football and was an avid Broncos fan. Benita enjoyed playing bingo, card games, watching her kids sing karaoke, and for more than two decades played the lotto religiously. More than anything she loved being with her family.
Benita is survived by five children: Alan Johnson of Federal Heights, Jeanette Gestner of Littleton, Rick Johnson of Highlands Ranch, Barbara Maddox of Atlanta, and Michael Johnson of Lakewood.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Family and friends are encouraged to attend a day of celebrating the life of Benita on Friday, October 9, 2015.
A viewing is scheduled at Newcomer Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd., Lakewood, at 10:00 a.m., Services will follow at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Burial at Fort Logan Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
Finally, a Celebratory Reception will be held at 2:00 p.m., or immediately following the burial, at Lakewood Meridian, 1805 S. Balsam Street, Lakewood, 80232.
