Benjamin Bates Buker
Benjamin Bates Buker was born on the dining room table, February 8, 1961 in Pakistan. His early days were spent in Pakistan where he attended Murree Christian School a boarding school for Third Culture Kids until moving to the United States in June of 1969. Ben continued his schooling years in Denver moving to Wheaton, IL in 1972 where he graduated from high school. During his school days he developed an intense interest in sports learning and being able to quote to you every possible detail about the sport and the players. In Jr. High he participated and excelled in running the 1500 meter. He loved cooking, creatively making yummy recipes and considered becoming a chef. He worked a variety of jobs in the Wheaton area until returning to the Denver area in 1995 with his parents. He was dedicated to the Lord and a member of the First Baptist Church of golden.
Ben accepted Christ at an early age but considered his rededication to the Lord at the Dedication service of the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College on September 3, 1980 to be pivotal in his relationship with the Lord. From then on he became a fervent student and sharer of the Lord and His Word. Ben earned an exceptional score and a certificate of Completion for the Liberty University Bible Correspondence course without reviewing the material. Ben will always be known for his avid love of the Lord, His Word and for sharing with others. He loved to sing and listen to the meaningful lyrics of praise, hymns and gospel music especially Doug Oldham. He loved people and persistently pursued keeping in touch with family and friends. He found great joy in giving cards that he either picked out or made, writing meaningful messages of encouragement and eternal value. He also loved cats for their cute, cuddly and playful ways. His favorite color was red which he looked very good in!
Ben faced many challenges during his earthly life that led him right to Jesus the only true Constant, Faithful, Accepting One. He became an active participant of communities with others who faced similar challenges being salt and light. He lived the last two years of his earthly life in assisted living facing health challenges and is finally home with Jesus whom his heart loved and longed for.
