Benjamin Packer

October 17, 1980 — October 7, 2012

A year ago we lost someone very special; a son, a brother and a best friend to many. Benjamin James Packer was a very wonderful person with an incredible glowing personality. Throughout his life he was presented with many obstacles that he was able to overcome because of his strength and character. He could light up a room just by being present. He prided himself with loyalty, empathy and laughter. Anyone who knew him knows how special he was. He had an incredible sense of humor and loved nothing more than to make people laugh. He is missed by many. He is survived by his father, Remo Packer, mother, Jane McCarty, step father John McCarty, sisters Adrienne Packer, Kelly McCarty, Rachel McCarty, brother Sean McCarty and many wonderful friends from all parts of his life. He was loved and cherished by many more than he ever knew but we know that Heaven is a better place with him. After a long year away from him here are some things that his family and a few friends wanted to share.

So, it's been a year. I sometimes wonder if you are watching all of us and appreciating the love you commanded. I pray that you are free from pain, from anger, from anxiousness. Are you well? Are you better? I feel a profound sense of loss since you left us. I choose to believe you are feeling better and more at peace. I miss you terribly. I think of you most days when I see something I feel you would appreciate or find funny. It makes me think of calling you. May you be in peace. I love you. – Dad

My Benjamin, What can I say to you that I haven't already said and felt. I woke up at 5am today as usual and looked up at the dark sky filled with so many beautiful stars. Glistening so beautifully. Millions of them dancing, and twinkling. It was an awesome sight! I spoke to you out loud. 'Do you truly know how much I miss you?' 'Do you know how much I love you?" God please be with me today. Please let him know… I am honored to have had him as my son. He will live on forever and ever in my heart and so many others hearts. His Saint Christopher and my silver cross will always be around my neck. Forever...I will cherish him forever May angels lead you in. - Mom

I imagined growing old and always sharing my man to man conversations with Ben. I loved being his shoulder to cry on when he needed another guy who cared enough to share in his emotion. I loved being a friend that was different, who loved God, and lived differently from his other friends. I loved knowing that our friendship was beyond friendship, we were brothers. I love that when we had not talked in a while, Ben could always pick up right where we left off, but fill me in on all the rest of what I had missed. He cared about me, and knew I cared about him. Ben was transparent about almost everything with me. I needed him at times to just get me out of my comfort zone so I could have some fun. What an awesome guy he was. I will miss Ben until the day we can meet again. – Scott S.

Ben, can't believe it's been a year... So much has happened since you've been gone. I can still hear your laugh and I can still see your smile... So many memories that I will keep with me forever. You are dearly missed Brother, and I'll see you on the other side. – Dan B.
Well, I sit here a year later and wonder how this came to be. My best friend. Through family moves, out of state nonetheless. We always stayed in touch. Graduated high school together, which was all we ever wanted. Man, i miss you day in and day out. Whether it's because of songs, sports teams, political topics, it always brings you to mind. Ill never forget the times, ill always love you man. – James W.
