Bertha Mae Jenkins was born in Logan County, KS on September 21st, 1934, to Marion Granville Jenkins and Agnes Sun-Behind-a-Cloud. She was the oldest of four Children, born to this union, Marion Louis, Robert Granville, and Mary Ann. She has four Nieces, nine Nephews, 26 Grand-Nieces, and thirty Grand-Nephews. She is proceeded in death by her brother Marion Louis and Robert Granville.

As a child, she always helped her mother with her younger siblings and was very focused on her school studies. She graduated from Denver’s Manual Training High School, then went to Denver University. In 1956, she received her BA and MA in 1965. Undergraduate-Elementary Education, Zoology, and Psychology (Child). Graduate: Elementary Education. Her DU activities were Marching band, and ice skating. Her DU memories were drinking coffee in the credit union with friends and her Mother and marching in the Marching Band. After Graduating from DU, she attended Michigan State University and studied Minority Education, then Metro State University were she studied Early Childhood Education. She taught 30 years, from preschoolers to college students. Bertha put her personal life on hold to move from Michigan, back to Colorado, to assist her parents raising her brother Marion Louis’s children.

Bertha faith was deep rooted, and she was a member of the Happy Church, and Church of God in Christ. She also was a minority business woman who had three day nursery schools, was a real estate Broker, and had a Shaklee business. She also was an investment partner for Mr. Peat, Inc (farm equipment from China).

Bertha always volunteered for the 9 News Health Fair, and Children’s Hospital, and always found time to help watch her numerous Nephews and Niece’s young children.

She is proceeded in death by parents, her brothers Marion Louis and Robert Granville.
