Betty J. Todd

October 28, 1937 — January 1, 2024

Betty Jean Todd (86) was born in Crescent, Oklahoma, to Jessie James Dickey and Sallie Ann
(Swinney) Dickey just before her twin brother, Bobby Dean Dickey. Betty and Bobby were the
youngest of seven children: John William Dickey, Zula Mae Bay, Lillie Pearl Bay, Annie Lee Hill (only surviving sibling), Jessie James Dickey, and Bobby. Her family moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma, while she was still young. She graduated from Midwest City High School as Valedictorian, Class of1955.

When she was 12, she met her lifelong friend, Patricia Ann (Todd) Taylor, who introduced Betty to her brother Eugene 'Gene' Ray Todd. Sweethearts from the beginning, she married Gene on October 19, 1957, at Soldier Creek Baptist Church, Midwest City, Oklahoma. Gene served in the Navy and Air Force, mainly as an instructor at Lowey AFB in Aurora, Colorado. They had three children: John Todd, Brian Todd (Charlotte), and Janie Wilkinson (Brian); eight grandchildren: Dustin Todd (Ola), Aubrey Candalera (Michael), Shannon Todd, Tamsen Todd, Jalena Todd, Elise Todd, Samuel Wilkinson, Carolyn Shelton (Parker); and three great-grandsons Matthew Todd, Nicholas Todd, and Murray Candalera.

Betty was a leader with a "get it done" personality. She managed the family while Gene served three tours in Vietnam and Thailand. She served proudly as payroll section chief for the National Park Service, retiring from the federal government in 2000. She enjoyed the mountains and traveling in their Airstream. She saw most of America and visited Israel and Okinawa.

More than anything, she loved our Lord Jesus Christ. She taught Sunday school, supervised youth
mission trips, and cared for infants for many years at Central Baptist Church in Aurora. She showed
His love for others by having several airmen over for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, giving
money to those in need, and donating to many Christian ministries.
