Betty Lou Ann Wendt May 18, 1938 – May 18, 2026

Betty Lou Ann Wendt, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Golden, Colorado, on May 18, 2026 — her birthday. She was born on May 18, 1938, in Denver, Colorado, to Frederick L. Adams Jr. and Corrine (Adams) Smith, who preceded her in death, along with her brother, Richard Adams.

A native Coloradan, Betty was a true Colorado woman at heart, with a deep love for the mountains. She spent nearly all of her life in the state she loved, aside from a period living in Kansas and Missouri, where she fell in love with country farm life. It was there that she began her family with her former spouse, L. Clayton Hedrick, and welcomed her three children. This “city girl” learned farming, gardening, canning, sewing, and embraced all the joys of small-town living.

After returning to Colorado in 1977, life’s journey led her to Melbourne “Mel” Wendt. They married in 1984 and shared 41½ wonderful years of marriage. Through this union, Betty was also blessed with two more sons, Anthony “Tony” and Donald “Donnie.”

She is survived by her loving husband, Melbourne “Mel” Wendt; her children, Deborah Hedrick (Laurene) of Dover, Delaware; Steven Hedrick (Kelly) of Omaha, Arkansas; Susan Blake (Steven) of Arvada, Colorado; Anthony Wendt (Mitzi) of Pueblo, Colorado; and Donald Campbell (Melissa) of Rockford, Illinois. Betty also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

Betty dedicated many years of her career as a payroll manager for Navajo Trucking, where she was respected for her hard work, reliability, and dedication. After retirement, she devoted her time to serving others through her involvement with Hope House Colorado.

She found great joy in making handmade greeting cards and scrapbooking, creating treasured keepsakes for family and friends. She also enjoyed sitting on her back porch, tending to her flower gardens, and watching the birds she loved so dearly.

Above all, Betty’s greatest passion was sharing her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and living as an example of love, compassion, and devotion to God. Betty will be remembered as a strong and compassionate woman whose love for her family never wavered. She was deeply family-oriented, loving, passionate, and God-fearing, leaving behind a legacy of faith, resilience, unconditional love, and the gift of truly listening to others.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
