Byron Keith Lucas, born on March 12, 1967, in Munich, Germany, on the military base, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026, at Longmont United Hospice, surrounded by family and loved ones. His passing brings deep sorrow to those who knew him and gratitude for the life he shared with so many.

Byron’s life was marked by the enduring bonds of family, friendship, and love. He will be remembered with affection by all who were blessed to know him, and his memory will remain a lasting presence in the hearts of those closest to him.

He is survived by his siblings, William Milton, Del Wallace, Sheri Lucas, Gina Lucas, Belvery Lucas, Henry Lucas Jr., Alfred Lucas, and Kathy Petkovich as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Byron’s memory will also be cherished by his grandson, Trevin Lucas and the mother of his children, Stacey Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Henry Lucas Sr., as well as his brothers and sisters, Andre Milton and Kim Sanderson; by his sons, Brian Gatewood, Tre Lucas, and Darian Lucas; by his nephew, Jahaad Washington; and by his brother-in-law, Jon Petkovich. Their memories remained part of the story of his life, and they are lovingly remembered alongside him.

Those who knew Byron will hold fast to the memory of his presence, the ties he nurtured, the way he could make anyone feel like family regardless of blood relation, and the love he shared with family and friends. May his life be remembered with tenderness, and may those who mourn him find comfort in the enduring strength of the bonds he leaves behind.

He will be remembered in every sunrise over the water in the mountains where he loved to fish, and during every Broncos football game. His good humor and loving nature will be remembered forever.
