Carlton Bernard Shaw passed away peacefully on June 20th, 2024. He was born in Washington, DC on February 22nd, 1940. He is preceded in death by his brothers Charles and Donald, as well as his sister, Mildred. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Patricia, his daughters, Jennifer and Marcelyn and Jennifer’s husband, Bill, his grandchildren Mason and Liam, his brother, Sony, his sister, Ida and his sister-in-law, Margaret.
Carlton graduated from San Jose State
University with a degree in accounting. He had an extensive career and worked in a variety of industries including accounting and furniture sales.
Carlton enjoyed numerous fun-filled gatherings with his large family and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was also an avid sports fan and after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1966, became a life-long 49er and Giants fan. When he wasn’t watching sports, he was playing them. He frequently played tennis with his friends at Stanford University on a team called “the early birds.”
Carlton was a passionate poker player and when he moved to Denver in 2006, joined a group called “Poker of the Rockies.” His poker friends knew him as “Bernie” and were immediately drawn to his quick wit, savvy strategies, and friendly disposition.
A gathering will be held in Washington, DC in the spring of 2025. Details to follow.
