Charlene D. Morgan (Stevens), 86, of Aurora, CO, formerly of Barnes City, IA passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at University Hospital, Aurora, CO.
She was born on 2 April 1930 to Lloyd and Blanche Stevens and was welcomed home by three brothers; Norman and Orman (twins) and Delmar. In the Stevens family, the children were given nicknames that would stay with them throughout their lifetimes…so there was Chub, Stub, Toad and Charlene would be known as Smock. This family tradition would later be carried on with the nicknaming of Charlene and Mark's four children.
Charlene was a graduate of Barnes City High School and excelled as a basketball player and as a home economics student; there was nothing Charlene could not cook or sew. Her sewing and cooking skills served her well when raising her own family of four children.
Charlene married a high school classmate, Marcus Morgan, on March 27, 1953 and their family adventure soon began. Serving a career with the United States Air Force, Mark, Charlene and their four children, John (Fritz), Patricia (Priss), Barbara (Scooter), and Sherri (Tuddy) traveled the United States and the world for over 22 years. The highlight of their various assignments culminated with a four year assignment to France; allowing the family the opportunity to camp and travel all through Europe.
Charlene loved all outdoor activities and the family cabin, Coalie's Acres, near Kremmeling, CO provided the perfect setting for what she loved the most—enjoying the warmth of a roaring fire after spending all day outside. Despite suffering a stroke in 2008, Charlene continued to be active and involved in family activities and especially enjoyed going up to "the hill" to play the penny slot machines.
Charlene's devotion to and love for her family is the legacy she leaves behind. Her husband, four children, 10 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandchildren are grateful to have had her as the cornerstone in their lives and know her love will always be with them in their hearts and memories. While we will miss her terribly, we know she is at peace. She will fill her days walking mountain trails with Coalie; their beloved black Labrador.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and her three brothers.
