Charlene Rose Speelman, 65, of Denver, passed away Wednesday Dec 28, 2016.
She was born to the late John Speelman and Mildred (Foley) Speelman in Philadelphia PA. Charlene went to school her whole life within the Lutheran School system. In Pennsylvania it was Hope Lutheran School. In Denver it was Redeemer Lutheran and Lutheran High of Denver, CO.
Charlene left high school and went to work for Mountain Bell right away. She worked her way up to management, and retired there when she was 59. She got a nice payout and enjoyed every minute of spending it. For a while she worked as a Russian adoption coordinator and that job remained near to her heart. All the 'babies' she placed in homes held a special place in her life and she kept in contact with many of them.
She traveled quite a bit, loved taking road trips with her friends and family, and she was a Collector of just about everything: Precious Moments, clever pens and pencils, Disney pins, Nora Roberts books, Hummells (mom got her started on the Hummells) and Russian Nesting Dolls. I am sure there are other things, but there were so many I can't think of all of them.
She enjoyed volunteer work at Redeemer, she was in Choir and the Womens Ladies Guild. She owned a small business with her sister Jody in Denver so they we able to shop every weekend (and who doesn't love that).
Charlene is survived by Sisters: Jody MacNeill and Elaine Torp. She has two nieces: Denise Torp and Joyce Torp. She has 2 nephews: CJ McCoy and David MacNeill. She has 7 great nieces/nephews: Seth McCoy, Jessica MacNeill, Jordyn MacNeill, Cole MacNeill, Ryann Heinz, Raistlin Heinz, and Rachel Heinz. She also left hundreds of friends and they became as dear to her as family.
She forbade us to spread her ashes in the cold weather. We will hang onto them till summer and pick a nice warm day. She wants to be with mom and dad and her younger sister Trudy. They are all out at Ft Logan in Denver, CO. So when you look up and see about 30 balloons all be lifted to the Lord carrying Peace and Love, you will know that was the day we put Charlene to rest with her family.
Her final words to Elaine and Jody were "Why does it have to hurt so much?"
She hurts no longer
Sincerely, Jody MacNeill and Elaine Torp
