It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Christie C. Barela - Lopez, a vibrant spirit who illuminated the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. Born in Denver, Colorado, on August 11, 1964, Christie’s journey on this earth concluded on December 5, 2025, in Parker, Colorado. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Christie was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Joseph, with whom she shared an extraordinary bond for 43 years, celebrating 36 years of marriage. Their partnership was a testament to love that grows deeper with time. She poured her heart into being a mother, nurturing a household filled with warmth. Christie was proud of her children: Jayd (Evan), Jesse, Brendan (Julia), and her stepdaughter Vanessa. Each cherished moment spent with them was a reminder of her remarkable ability to nurture and develop young lives, whether they were her own or others. Her role as a nanny for over ten years was not just a job; it was a calling that she embraced wholeheartedly.
In her own spunky and high-energy way, Christie often brought laughter to life. Known for her funny and outgoing personality, she had a special way of making friends everywhere she went. Her radiant laughter and genuine nature made her a beloved figure in many hearts. Friends and family alike will fondly remember her joyfully supervising Joseph's yard work, sporting her favorite hat and sunglasses, drink in hand, with playful direction and an infectious smile. Christie absolutely adored her dogs Juice and Jax and loved to sneak them goodies like doughnuts and pastries every morning. That was only part of the reason her "fur babies" were so loyal and loving towards her.
A woman of faith, she approached life with passion, fully embracing every moment. Christie’s dedication to her family, her kindness, and her genuine heart created an environment where love flowed abundantly. Her grandchildren—James, Romeo, Alexis, Ana, and Arial—along with great-grandchildren Adrian and Romeo, were the apples of her eye, and her love for them knew no bounds.
Christie is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph; her mother, Betty; her children; her stepdaughter; and her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry her spirit forward in their hearts. She is preceded in death by her father, Richard, and her siblings Jason, Eric, and Richard, with whom she shares a lasting bond in memories.
A celebration of Christie's life will be held on January 10, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro in Denver, Colorado. A gathering will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a heartfelt celebration at 11:00 AM, where all who loved Christie can come together to share stories of her remarkable life and the memories that will forever live on.
As we reflect on Christie’s life, let us remember her laughter, her boundless love for her family, and her passion for life. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit will remain a guiding light, ever vibrant, ever loving, and forever cherished by those she leaves behind.
