Christopher David Ward, affectionately known as Chaz, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2026, in Aurora, Colorado. Born on October 12, 1961, in Dubuque, Iowa, Chris lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a lively spirit that touched all who knew him.
Chris was a proud graduate of Cherry Creek High School in Denver. In 1978, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served honorably for four years. His time in the Navy was a source of great pride. His time spent in the boiler division and the special boat unit to support in the Naval special warfare unit located in the Republic of the Philippines. He was recognized to be a proven asset while participated in several combined operations. Also known for being personable, hardworking, and well-regarded by his peers, Chris embraced military life with enthusiasm and commitment.
After his service, Chris pursued a career in excavation in the construction industry. His hands-on work was complemented by a genuine fascination for uncovering history, as he always enjoyed finding old bottles and petrified wood that he loved to share with family and friends. Each discovery telling a story of days long past. This passion for exploration was mirrored in his personal life, where he found great joy in hunting, as well as fishing and hiking amidst nature’s embrace.
Those closest to Chris remember a man who was truly a firecracker, full of energy and spirit, yet blessed with the biggest heart. His children remember cherished family adventures—skiing trips, fishing excursions at Teryall Reservoir, and visits to a special cabin named “Peter Rabbit,” a project Chris had helped build. He had a remarkable knack for finding tucked-away cabins to explore with his kids, creating a tapestry of treasured memories. Laughter and playful wrestling matches were regular features of his family interactions, underscoring his loving, vibrant nature.
Chris’s pride and joy were his grandchildren. He delighted in bringing them bags of candy, taking them fishing, and spoiling them with his attentive, gentle care. His role as a grandfather brought immense happiness and was among his proudest accomplishments.
He is survived by his daughter, Taarna Keebler, and her husband Jesse Odle; his son, Zachariah Kuykendall; and his beloved grandchildren Uriah Keebler, Leia Odle, and Aiden Kuykendall. Chris also leaves behind a devoted circle of siblings: Terry Ward; Kevin Ward; Tim Ward and his wife Grace; Brian Ward; and Sherry Ward and her husband James. Nieces Heather and Holly Job also carry forward his memory.
Chris was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joan and Wayne Ward, who no doubt are reunited with their son in spirit.
