Claude Emery Berghorn, 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakewood, Colorado, on April 19,2026.
Born on August 4, 1947, in Libertyville, Illinois, Claude lived a life marked by intellectual curiosity, professional accomplishments, and meaningful connections.
A graduate of Crystal Lakes High in 1965, Claude pursued higher education at the Colorado School of Mines. He earned a degree in Geological Engineering in 1971 and a Master of Science in Geology in 1973.
These achievements led to a distinguished career as a petroleum and natural gas engineer. Over the years, Claude made significant contributions to the energy industry through his hard work with Peppard/Souders & Associates, Petroleum Consultants, Sun Exploration, Texas Exploration and Rose Exploration from where he retired. His expertise took him to Wyoming and beyond as he identified vital energy resources.
Claude's interests extended beyond his professional life. A passionate collector, he treasured memorabilia from World War I and World War II, particularly items tied to the 9th Infantry Division where his father served - as well as baseball memorabilia, Bridget Bardot collectibles, and artifacts related to the iconic 1957 Chevrolet. He was an avid reader and enjoyed music of the 1970's folk era, finding joy in the simple pleasures that enriched his life.
He valued his relationships deeply and maintained lifelong friendships with Stew Ellison, Morey Miceli, Gerry and Nancy Rhode, Bob and Rose Koskey, Yuri Beckers and Diane Rhodus. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Claude was very grateful for his caregivers whose compassionate care and dedication provided him with comfort and peace.
Claude is survived by his cousins Marlene Anderson, Rosemary Kagel and William Berghorn. He was predeceased by his parents, Clara A. (Graff) Berghorn and Emery W. Berghorn.
A Funeral Service will be held on May 15, 2026 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception, at Newcomer West Metro Chapel, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd and concluding with a graveside service at Golden Cemetery.
