Clifford Douglas Russell, 73, of Lakewood, CO, passed away in a vehicle accident on July 9th, 2014.
He was born on January 28, 1941 in Itmann, WV. He was the son of the late Audley and Susie Russell. As a child he lived in Kenova, WV before moving to Wayne, WV. He graduated from Wayne High School in 1958, being the Salutatorian of his class. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech). He was the only member of his high school class to attend university out of state. He received a BS degree in Physics from VA Tech, and later, Masters degrees from both Lynchburg College (Physics), Lynchburg, VA and the University of Virginia (Mechanical Engineering), Charlotteville.
Clifford was a retired engineer in nuclear reactor safety analysis with Babcock & Wilcox in Lynchburg, VA, where he resided from 1967 to 2012. He was an active member of North Bedford Baptist Church, including serving as deacon and Sunday School Director, and participated in numerous mission projects with the men of the church. He had a wide range of interests and hobbies, and was active in local conservative politics both in Virginia and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Williams Russell, originally from Packs Branch/Mount Hope, West Virginia. They were married for over 51 years. He is survived also by his daughters Diane Russell of Lakewood, CO, Deborah Wilder & son-in-law Jeremy Wilder of Arvada, CO, his son Douglas Russell and daughter-in-law Laarni Russell of Louisville, KY, his granddaughters Meadow and Heather Wilder, and Leila and Lexie Russell. He is also survived by his sister, Maxine Lewis, of Kitts Hill, OH, and his brother, Daniel Russell, of Wayne, WV. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Russell.
Services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Lakewood, CO, Thursday, July 17, with visitation at 12:00 Noon and service following at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Golden Cemetery, Golden, CO.
