In Loving Memory of Cindy Henry
Cindy Henry was born on March 25, 1960, in Denver and passed away on August 30, 2026, in Lakewood, at the age of 66. She leaves behind a life story filled with creativity, love, enduring friendships, cherished interests, and profound losses.
Cindy spent much of her early childhood being raised by her grandparents, Jack and Louise, who were an important presence in her life. Her aunts Michele and Jacque held a special place in her heart. They were never just Cindy’s aunts; they were like her big sisters.
As a young woman, Cindy showed determination, talent, and a desire to achieve. While attending Skinner Junior High School, she earned second place in the eighth-grade All-City Art Competition, and the following year, she earned first place in the ninth-grade All-City ROTC drill team competition in 1975. At North High School, she was inducted into the National Honor Society in May 1978. She had hopes of continuing her education in Nashville, reflecting her ambition and desire to keep learning.
After high school, Cindy began her career in the business world, receiving training at Barnes Business College in secretarial work, bookkeeping, and inventory. Her first paycheck, in 1977, was $13.44 for six hours of work. Her first car was a 12-year-old, green-and-yellow 1965 Volkswagen Beetle with 80,000 miles on it. These small details offer a glimpse into Cindy's early years and the life she was building for herself. Her early career was spent working at Edgewater Office Products, Stevenson Toyota West, Fred Spoerl and Associates, and American Service Finance.
Cindy spent many years at Ace Hardware, where her creativity and artistic eye made her especially gifted at designing displays for holidays and special events. She had a wonderful talent for transforming a space and making it festive and eye-catching, and she had great friends like Marnie to work alongside her.
Later, Cindy found a work home at Blue Ribbon Home Warranty, where she spent many years. She was fortunate to have a great boss and a wonderful friend in Ellen. The friends she made throughout her working life were very important to her.
Cindy's gifts extended beyond her professional life. She was an amazing artist and a master embroiderist, capable of creating beautiful things with extraordinary skill and care. She had the most beautiful handwriting imaginable—the kind that people remembered. Whether she was stitching an intricate design, creating a display, or simply putting pen to paper, Cindy had a way of making ordinary things beautiful. Her creativity was not just something she did; it was part of who she was.
Cindy was also an avid reader who loved getting lost in a good book. Her devotion to Stephen King was legendary: she had every Stephen King book ever printed. She was a true “Walking Dead” fanatic, and Halloween was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed the spooky season, with its atmosphere, imagination, and love of all things eerie. Halloween seems a fitting favorite for someone who appreciated stories that could transport you somewhere unexpected.
Her musical tastes were wonderfully varied, spanning from the timeless songs of The Beatles to the music of Lady Gaga. Cindy loved what she loved, without feeling the need to fit into any one category. She also loved to cook and had an impressive collection of recipes.
And then there were her cats, Stevie and Myabelle. They were her two favorite animals in the world and held a very special place in her heart. The love she had for them was among her most profound and treasured relationships.
Cindy's life was not without heartbreak. In her early twenties, she and her partner, Don, welcomed a beautiful daughter, Stephanie, on July 12, 1983. Cindy's time with her daughter was tragically brief. On September 1, 1983, while Cindy was on her way home from work, the car she was in was struck by a firetruck. Stephanie died in the accident, a devastating loss that changed Cindy's life forever.
The death of a child is a sorrow no parent should ever have to endure. The loss was overwhelming, and the relationship between Cindy and Don did not survive the tragedy. The grief she carried was part of her story, even as she continued to move forward through life.
On January 28, 1986, Cindy welcomed her son, Patrick, into the world. His birth brought happiness into her life again, offering a new chapter after years marked by unimaginable pain.
In 1988, Cindy began sharing her life with Russ Gosha. They remained together until his death in November 2013 due to alcohol-related illness. They shared 25 years of life together, filled with the everyday experiences, companionship, and memories of their life together.
Cindy also lost her Grandfather in 1988, her Grandmother in 2006, her Mother in 2011, her Father in 2017, and her Aunt Michele in 2022. She had a lot of loss in her life. She coped with such loss by using alcohol, which eventually took her life as well.
Those who knew Cindy will remember not only the hardships she endured, but also the many things that made her special: her artistic gifts, her beautiful handwriting, her eye for detail, her extraordinary talent for decorating, her love of a good story, her passion for good chiles and good Mexican food, and the things that made her smile. We remember a woman who made beautiful things, treasured her connections with others, and carried a lifetime of memories, both joyful and heartbreaking.
Cindy's life cannot be measured by its tragedies, nor can the depth of her story be captured by a list of dates and accomplishments. She was a daughter, a granddaughter, a mother, a grandmother, a cousin, a friend, an artist, a devoted reader, a music lover, and a cherished companion to her cats. She was a person with dreams, talents, passions, and a life that mattered deeply to those who shared it with her.
Cindy is survived by many family members, including her Aunt Jacque & Uncle Eddie, her biological son Patrick, her granddaughter Charlotte, and many cousins including Beth, Christy, Amy, Joe, John, Brigette, and Bonnie. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie, her spouse, Russell Goscha, her Aunt Michele, her grandparents, Jack and Louise, and her mother and father, Patricia Metzger and Floyd Henry.
She will be remembered with love, missed beyond words, and held in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. May the memories of Cindy bring comfort to all who mourn her.
Rest peacefully, Cindy. You will always be loved and remembered.
Cindy’s graveside service will be on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery at 11:00 am, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033
