Dan Mares

Dan "Benny" Mares, a man whose laughter echoed in the hearts of many, left this world on January 13, 2026, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 76. Born in Center, Colorado, on July 26, 1949, he was a caring father, devoted husband, and a friend to all who knew him.

Benny's journey began in the San Luis Valley, where he started working in the potato fields as a young boy. He demonstrated an admirable work ethic early on, leaving school after the fourth grade to support himself and his family. This hardworking spirit carried him through his life, with much of his career dedicated to being a custodian. Most recently, he served at Arapahoe Community College, where he spent seven fulfilling years, bringing his positive energy and good-natured humor to the workplace.

Those who shared a bond with Benny will forever treasure memories that bring smiles even amidst sorrow. Among these cherished moments are the days spent enjoying Colorado Rockies games and the times when he donned his Broncos attire to attend games with his daughter, Christina, who was his pride and joy. Benny’s ability to bring joy was evident in his personality; he was a genuine jokester, always quick with a laugh, and his infectious happiness brightened the lives of everyone around him.

Beyond his professional life, Benny had varied interests that illustrated his spirited personality. A lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he showed unwavering loyalty to his team. He delighted in shooting pool, visiting local track car races, and indulging in his passion for cars – at one time owning a Corvette and then a Camaro. His skill with remodeling his own home was a true testament to his determination and ingenuity, achieving proud accomplishments like building a deck and installing new flooring that showcased his love for creativity and hard work.

Benny's legacy will live on through his loving family, which includes his devoted wife, Anita Brady; daughter, Christina Jenkins (Dan Campbell); step-son, Richard Brady; grand-daughters Savannah Gomez and Kayla Gomez; and grandson Anthony Martinez. He also leaves behind brothers Jimmy Lovato (Janet Ruiz) and Lipio Lovato, along with sister Patsy Martinez.

While he has reunited with his beloved son, Benny Nathan Lovato, and brothers Bernie and Henry Lovato, Benny will be profoundly missed by all whose lives he touched. His spirit, marked by joy and the ability to find laughter even in the simplest moments, will resonate in the hearts of family and friends alike.
