Daniel R. Richards, Jr.

Daniel R. Richards Jr., 74, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Aurora, Colorado after a courageous battle with bone and liver cancer.
He was born to Daniel Robert Richards and Jeanne Marian (Keithline) Richards in Kingston, Pa. on June 2, 1939. He grew up and attended school in Dallas, Pa through the 12th grade.
He is survived by his daughters Robin Jensen (John), Tara Lanterman (Tim), Shane Perotti, five grandchildren; Dane, Jack, Emma, Jude and Connor, sister Judith Stevens (Lowell) and his niece Dallas Young and nephew Bruce Stevens. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dan was a longtime resident of Aurora where he lived after leaving his boyhood home in Dallas, Pennsylvania. In 1957, Dan enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, Topsham Air Force Base, Brunswick, Maine where he served his country for four years. He was assigned to the 4626th Support Squadron. Like his father, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for the town of Dallas, Pa.
In 1962, he began work with United Airlines and remained with the company as a service agent until his retirement. It was there that he met his lifelong friends Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Mike Foster, Roger Gosney and Don Peterman. After retirement, Dan joined the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie # 3224 in Aurora. He served on the board of trustees for 5 years and got up early every morning to head down to the club to help out with whatever was needed of him; shoveling snow, helped with cleaning and fixing up the building taking out trash. No job was beneath him.
He will be remembered as a private man, a truly loyal pal, and a guy with a sophisticated sense of humor. Dan had a capacity for kindness and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His love of golf took him all over the world, including St. Andrew's in Scotland. He cheered on the Broncos and the Rockies and was loyal to Penn State. Go Nittany Lions!
