Dean "Skip" Thomas, 67, of Brighton, passed away August 25, 2017.
He was born October 21, 1949 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the son of Henry and Margaret (Ehrmantraut) Thomas. He was a graduate of Glen Ullin High School. He attended North Dakota State School of Science.
Skip moved to Colorado in 1972 and began working at A. A. Lift truck. In 1974 he left A.A. Lift truck and began his life career at Wagner Lift Truck, as a fork lift mechanic. After many years, he transferred to the heavy equipment division as an instructor traveling the western division teaching until he retired in 2012.
Skip was known among family as the "Gadget Man" who was not shy when it came to "As Seen It On Tv" ads. He enjoyed taking road trips with his older twin brother, Rocky riding their Harley Davidsons visiting family and attending Sturgis Rallies. Skip loved eagles which were a symbol of American Freedom. He enjoyed sharing his time, with son Jeff watching movies and acquired the nick name "Freddy" from Jeff.
Skip was known by many nick names. Most notably Skip. Most recently he became affectionately know as US, Uncle Skip and GUS, great Uncle Skip by nieces and nephews. Anyone who knew Skip, knew him for his kind and gentle spirit. He portrayed Mt. 22:37-40. "Jesus replied, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it, 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and prophets hang on these two commandments." One of the ways he demonstrated this was by donating his hair to Locks of Love in 2013.
Dean is survived by his brother, Dwight "Rocky" (Adela) Thomas; two sisters, Judith Standish and Constance (Wayne) Kurle; four nephews, Shaun (Jessica) Thomas, Craig (Darla) Standish, Bradley (Ashley) Kurle, and Matthew (Sarah) Kurle; five nieces, Nicole (Brandon) Glaser, Kristin (Dominic) Ellis, Jennifer Standish, Monica (Dan) Everson, and Linda (Wesley) Sprenger; thirteen great-nieces and nephews, Aria Everson, Leighton Everson, Isabella Standish, Nora Kurle, Nathan Kurle, Rachel Glaser, Alyssa Glaser, Haleigh Glaser, Maddison Ellis, Ethan Glaser, Katie Sprenger, Jasmin Sprenger, and Braxton Sprenger.
