Dennis L. Brooks

Dennis "Denny" Brooks, 84, of Aurora, Co., passed away at home on Dec. 22, 2014.

He was born to Glenn Brooks and Carol (Smith) Brooks on a farm near Pepin, Wi., on Nov. 5, 1930. He graduated from Lost Creek Elementary School, and then with honors from Pepin High School in 1949. He received a B.A. in education from Stout Institute in Menomonie, Wi., in 1952.


In June 1952, he joined the United States Navy. He went through flight training as a Naval Aviator Cadet and was commissioned an Ensign on Nov. 2, 1953. The remainder of his time in the Navy he was a P5M Patrol Plane pilot in squadrons VP40 and VP42. He served at Naval Air Station Agana in Guam and at Fleet Air Wing Six Staff in Iwakuni, Japan. He left the Navy at the rank of Lieutenant.



He married Lois Schutt, of Menomonie, Wisconsin in April 1956. They lived in various locations for more than ten years before settling in Aurora in 1966.


For 30 years, Dennis and Lois owned and operated Double C Coin Cleaners in Aurora.

Denny was in the Boy Scouts, was a troop leader and a First Class Scout. He belonged to a 4H club and won many blue ribbons. In Iwakuni he taught four students chemistry, helping them graduate from high school.



Denny is survived by his wife Lois; three children: Luana (Christopher) Geiger of Arvada, Co., Lan Brooks (Peggy) of Colorado Springs, and DJay (Julia) Brooks of Wichita Falls, Tx.; five grandchildren: Amey (Peter) Schutz, Jennifer, Keelan, Aran and Sean; two great-grandchildren: Kaydee and Samuel; two brothers: Carl and Patrick; and nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Glen Brooks and Robert Brooks.
