MAINE, Denver E.

Denver was born June 30, 1929 in Kenosha, Wisconsin and passed away on July 25, 2014 in Punta Gorda, Florida. He spent his first seventeen years growing up in Wisconsin and Illinois then moved to North Dakota for four years. Denver proudly began service to his country by entering the US Army as a private in October 1950 and after serving tours in Korea, Germany (twice), France and Vietnam (twice) he retired in January 1972 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Denver married his beloved wife and life long friend Dora Belle Leivick in June 1961. After retiring from the Army, Denver worked as an Administrator for one year at Montview Presbyterian Church. In January 1973 he worked for the Admissions Office at Colorado General Hospital as an evening supervisor. Beginning July 1973, Denver worked as the Administrator of Student Affairs for the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry until his final retirement in July 1989 as Director of Student Affairs.

After retirement Denver and Dora moved to Windsor Gardens in September 1989 and lived there until Dora's death in March 2004. For the next five years Denver lived in Colorado from May until October and was a "snowbird" in Florida from November until April. In July 2009 he moved to Florida permanently.

Denver is survived by his loving sister Marjorie (Jack) Morris; sons Henry (Lisa) Maine, Denver Carl Maine; daughters Barbara Coleman and Mary Lou (Eric) Maine-Dawson; grandchildren Jason Naler, Alison (Daniel) Prewett, Garth (Anna) Maine, Jonathon (Megan) Maine and James Maine, also grandchild in spirit Julie (Matt) Nansel; great grandchildren Dalton and Luke Naler, Maggie and Wyatt Maine, Eric, Devin, Jeremiah, Timothy, Isaiah, Maliki, Daniel, Elijah and Nehemiah Nansel; brother in law John (Audrey) Leivick and many nieces and nephews.

Denver was proceeded in death by his wife Dora Belle (Leivick) Maine; parents Carl Henry (Lauretta Bridgett (Walker) Maine; sisters Doris Maine and Patricia Marie (Robert) Frost; brother Charles Lester Maine; sisters in law May (Frank) Loquidis, Louise (Arthur) Clay and Dorothy (Lloyd) Leivick and brothers in law Frank (May) Loquidis, Lloyd (Dorothy) Leivick and Floyd (Marion) Leivick.

An outdoor service will be held on October 14, 2014 at 9 am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, shelter "A" with full military honors. There will not be visitation or a graveside service.

We are all better people for knowing this loving, brave, honorable man!!!!
