Dolores Mae Richardson

June 3, 1925 — January 14, 2015

Dolores Mae Richardson, 89, of Denver & Aurora, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

She was born to the late Arthur and Dorothy Dome, June 3, 1925, in Shelby, Ohio. During her teen years they moved to upstate New York where she went to high school. In 1947 her family moved to Boulder, Colorado. While there she worked for Colorado A & M in Fort Collins. In 1949 she moved to Denver when she took a job working for Continental Airlines as a key punch operator. She married the late Larry Richardson in December 1949. In 1951 they moved into their first house in a new subdivision at 31st & Olive streets. Because they had expanded their family with 2 daughters, one in 1953 and the other in 1955, they moved to a larger home just off Hampden on Hudson Street in January 1957 where they lived for 17 years. In 1974 they moved to Heather Gardens where they could enjoy their empty nest life. For the last six years she has lived at Dayton Place.

Dolores was active spending time with the girls in brownies and girl scouts. After becoming a Christian in the late 60s she enjoyed studying all aspects of the bible doing various bible studies throughout the years and was very active at Faith Presbyterian Church. She joined the Eskimo Ski Club in 1967, however, after breaking her leg skiing in 1975 she decided not to ski any more. She enjoyed reading and in her later years she did needlepoint, embroidery, knitting and sewing. In 1981 she joined DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and traced her mother's side back to the revolution. She enjoyed attending new citizenship ceremonies and being involved in projects for veterans at the VA hospital.

They also loved to travel and always took a two week vacation every year. In 1970 the family enjoyed a trip to the Holy Lands. In 1974 she & Larry celebrated their 25th anniversary in Hawaii and in 1984 they bought an RV and traveled to Alaska. In 1988 Dolores started planning family reunions with her sister & brother's families in Tennessee and Georgia. One reunion included a cruise in the Carribean. After Larry retired they took several driving trips a year throughout Colorado, Texas, Ohio and other states in between.

She is survived by her daughters, Anita (Al) Quintana of Aurora and Rebecca (Greg) Bowlin of Centennial. She is also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Art (Sandy) Dome of Jefferson City, TN and her sister Adella (Paul) Amstutz of Dawsonville, GA. She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Dorothy Dome and her husband Larry Richardson.
