Donald George Brady
July 13, 1922 to August 04, 2014
Donald George Brady passed away Monday August 4, 2014 at the age of 92 years.
He was born to Donald Cameron and Mary Ellen Brady on July 13 1922 in Nanty Glo Pa. His parents moved to Denver, Colorado and resided at 3018 Williams Street for most of his childhood. Donald attended Manuel High School in Denver Colorado.
Donald worked various jobs in his youth, which included helping his father at the butcher shop and working in a steel foundry. He used to tag along with his father to the numerous airshows that were popular in the early days of aviation; selling hotdogs and snacks from a food cart. In this setting an interest in aviation had it's first spark. He served his country in the Army Air Corp and Merchant Marines where he trained to be an aircraft mechanic.
After his military service he began an extensive career in aviation. He considered taking a job with United Airlines after his service, but did not like the idea of moving to Cheyenne Wyoming where United's maintenance facility was then located. Instead he went to work with Monarch Airlines in Denver, Colorado, which merged with Capitol Airlines in 1947 to form Frontier Airlines. He worked at Frontier Airlines for the better part of 39 years attaining the position of Director of Maintenance. He retired from Frontier in 1986 and used his expertise in aircraft maintenance to consult at various start up airlines until his next retirement from aviation at age 72.
He met the love of his life, Mildred Therese Dernik, while residing in the same boarding house in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were married on April 10th 1953 after a whirlwind romance. They have recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
During the 1970's Don and Mil also owned and operated Asbury Manor, an assisted living facility in Denver, Colorado and Grace Manor, a skilled nursing facility in Burlington, Colorado.
His wife, Mildred and two children, Patricia of Chicago and Michael of Denver, survive Donald. Four granddaughters and 3 great granddaughters also survive him.
His parents, his sisters Marge Wade and Dolores Marquez and his brother Eugene Brady, precede him in death.
His children and wife, Millie who has called him in her words "my rock", will dearly miss him.
