Donald Lee Kinney, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully in Colorado on February 16, 2026, at the age of 99, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 1, 1927, in Sutherland, Nebraska, Donald's life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and unwavering love for his family.
Donald dedicated over 25 years of his life working as a mechanic at the Sterling International Harvester dealer, followed by another quarter of a century as a welder for the Colorado Department of State Highway. His hands, skilled and strong, not only built and repaired machines but also crafted dreams for those he loved. He took immense pride in his work and was especially proud of his accomplishment of building every house his children ever lived in.
He was a man of great character—known for his kindness, honesty, and an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. His nurturing spirit shone through in all that he did, and he will be remembered fondly as a great dad by his sons, Roger Kinney and Bruce Kinney and there spouses Kay and Heidi.
Outside of work, Donald found happiness in outdoor adventures. He loved nothing more than going fishing and camping, often taking along anyone willing to join him. His grandchildren, Jennifer, Allen, Katie, and Erin, were his beloved companions on these excursions, creating countless cherished memories together. As a proud great-grandfather to Brandon, Shawn, Olivia, Kaylee, Maddie, and Lexi, his legacy of love and pride continues to thrive in the hearts of his family.
In addition to his love for family, Donald enjoyed pursuing hobbies that brought him joy, such as garage sales and the thrill of gambling. He embraced life with a spirit that was both adventurous and full of laughter.
A proud WWll veteran, Donald served honorably in the Army, putting his country first while embodying the values of service and dedication throughout his life.
Donald Kinney is now reunited with his beloved wife, Arlene Kinney, and his dear parents, Dorothy and Harold Kinney, who passed before him. His memory will forever be woven into the fabric of his family’s lives. His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Though he has left this world, Donald's spirit will live on in the stories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love shared between family members—a true testament to a life well-lived.
