Doris C. Green was born to Edward and Martha Knight Thomas on December 14, 1913 in Maryville, Missouri, Doris suffered a stroke on February 23, 2012 and was hospitalized for 6 days, entered Orchard Park Rehab for 6 weeks and was then transferred to Porter Hospice for 5+ weeks.
Doris married Wayne W. Green on April 15, 1933. She was employed by the American Furniture Co. until she and her husband moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. From the early 60's she worked for Dr. Osgood Philpott and Doctors Palmieri and Poucel. After her second retirement she cared for her husband until his death in 1983 and her mother-in law in 1985. She then grew restless and began her babysitting and nanny career to several children until the ripe age of 90 when she could no longer drive due to glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Doris never allowed the grass to grow under her feet. She loved to dance, travel with her family and cousin Lee Cozad, took a cruise to Hawaii, traveled to Scotland, traveled up and down the coast of California, Las Vegas, Illinois and truly enjoyed Washington, D.C., Virginia, the New England states, New York and going to the theater. Doris also loved to take Amtrak whenever possible, played cards two - three times a month, entertain and was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos. She truly loved and enjoyed being on the boat in Pueblo on the weekends watching her family and friends waterskiing, wake boarding and tubing. Come Sunday evening never wanting to leave and could not understand why we could not stay for a week at a time.
Doris is survived by her son, Rich (Lena) Green, 3 granddaughters, Pamela (Leonard) Hinkley, Yvonne (Dan Cartin), Kerri Green, 1 great grandson Tyler Hinkley and great-granddaughters Tess and Shawn Cartin, Hayden and Chloe Johnson, Elizabeth Hinkley, great, great granddaugher, 2 cousins, Helen Bonine and Earl Knight from Wyoming, 1 cousin, Virginia Lee Cozad from Oakton, Virginia and 1 cousin, Ruth Johnson, from Tucson, Arizona.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne and sister Geraldine McGuire.
