Doris Marie Petersen, 86, of Denver, passed away April 21, 2015.
She was born January 7, 1929 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Otto and Elsie (Baer) Schaad. Doris was born and spent her early years with a loving extended family in the Bronx. She lost her Father at the age of 3 to pneumonia.
When her Mom (Elsie) remarried, they moved to Denver and in 1941 met Calvin at Luther league at the age of 13. Her Stepfather was in food service after the war and moved the family to Salt Lake City for a time, then back to New York where she graduated from high school.
In 1946 she moved back to Denver and reacquainted with Calvin and they married in 1948. The couple lived awhile in Chicago while Calvin finished electronic schooling. Doris worked at Bankers Life and Casualty and later at Curtis Candy Company. They came back to Denver, Doris worked in insurance and they moved to King St. Doris focused on work and setting up a home for her husband and future family. Calvin & Doris became charter members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in 1956. In the early years of the church Doris helped out providing secretarial duties for the Pastor, Don Hansen.
Calvin and Doris were blessed with their Son Ken, and later with their Daughter Deb. Doris focused on taking on the role of being a stay at home Mom. Doris was a selfless Mother & wife, spending hours creating handmade clothes for her family, planning adventures large and small including many trips to Glenwood Springs, Doris loved the beauty and comfort of the hot springs. Doris shared her love baking endless batches of cookies for her family. Doris spent many years enjoying her Mom, who proceeded her in death in 1998. They've resided at King St. through children, grand-children and retirement. Calvin was the love of her life for 67 years. Words cannot express how much our Wife and Mother will be missed.
Doris is survived by her husband, Calvin Petersen; Son, Ken Petersen and his wife Pam; Daughter, Deb Lare and her husband Bob; 4 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Father, Otto Schaad and Mother, Elsie A. Schaad.
