Dorothy "Dot" Louise Chellew Oliver was born at home August 30, 1931 in the coal mining town of Leyden, Colorado to William and Pearl Chellew. When she was about 13, the family moved to Denver – next door to her future husband.
She graduated from East High School at 16 years old and worked as a comptometer operator until she married Louis G Oliver, Jr when she was 18 years old. Lou was in the Marine Corps and was shipped off to Korea. When he returned stateside, the family was stationed up and down the state of California until the family of five moved to Japan. After four years in Japan, and another son added to the family, they returned to California.
Her husband passed away November 20, 1963. Dorothy returned to Colorado to raise her four children. She went back to school when her youngest son was in high school. Dorothy worked at Children’s Hospital as a medical secretary. She retired at 73.
She was preceded in death by her son, Louie (Ellen), in 2022.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Robin, and two sons, Darryl and David (Crysti), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy made the best pies in the world, canned the best sauerkraut, loved to embroider, was a great seamstress, had a great sense of humor, loved her garden and her flowers, loved to read and also wrote poetry.
She loved her children more than they will ever know.
