Dorothy Lucinda Wilkes, 89, passed away March 2, 2014. She was born on July 28, 1924 to Edward and Hilda McLaughlin in Etna, NC.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 69 years, James G Wilkes, of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by her son James G Wilkes III of Orlando, FL, three grandchildren, Joanna Silva of Clayton, NC, Jennifer Bond of Indianapolis, IN, and Jason Wilkes of Bangor, ME. She had five great grandchildren, Kevin, Sean, and Luke Silva, and Emma and Ethan Bond.
Dorothy was employed by Woolco for many years. She loved fishing, hunting, and camping. She and her husband Jim spent many happy hours in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. Dorothy and Jim also enjoyed motorcycling as members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association for many years. She was skilled in cooking, gardening and crocheting. Her grandchildren still have some of the baby afghans she made for them.
Dorothy always has a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Although she drifted away slowly due to Alzheimer's, she was able to remain at home as she wished due to the diligent and loving care of her husband Jim.
We have faith, although she is absent from the body, she will be present with the Lord. We will see her again. Until then, she will be missed greatly.
