Dorothy Lee (Latta) McCarty, 79, of Lakewood, CO baked her last dessert on June 9, 2017.
She was born to the late Frank Edward Latta (1887-1978) and Mertie Marie (Baird) Latta (1906-1967) January 4, 1938, McDonald, Kansas. Graduated from McDonald High School. In 1958 Dorothy received her Associates in Arts from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and in 1987 her Bachelor of Arts from Metro State University in Denver, CO.
Dorothy was a librarian at the Denver Post for 36 years until she retired in December, 2001. Before moving to Denver, she worked for Pan American Airways. Her favorite flights were those to New York and Havana, Cuba.
She dedicated her life helping stray dogs and cats and volunteered for several animal rescue groups such as Cat Care Society, MaxFund, Alley Cat Allies, etc. Dorothy always had a big heart and open door for all the cats and dogs who had special needs. She also supported the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado for many years.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Troy Anthony McCarty, Lisa Angelique Thorn and son-in-law David Alan Thorn. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Taylor Nichole Thorn, Tyler Nicholas Thorn and Lauren Anne McCarty.
Dorothy will be interred with her parents at Grace Cemetery in McDonald, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to MaxFund Animal Adoption Center (maxfund.org), Cat Care Society (catcaresociety.org), Wild Animal Sanctuary (wildanimalsanctuary.org) or your local animal shelter.
