Doug McKim, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend - the most humble man anyone could know passed away on Thursday February 2nd. There wasn't a day that his sincere love for his family, friends, or strangers on the street didn't point you toward Jesus. He lived out a life of faithfully loving the kind, the mean, the tough, the unlovely, the people who were different from him... everyone, every day. Never for show, never to impress, just to show them love.
What a beautiful day we had as he left us here. The community that he poured his life into showed up to love and support him this time. You don't often see men lined up in the hallway just waiting and spending their day in prayer for the family. Waiting to give a hug and hold your hand. The men that showed up to make sure each of Doug's kids were taken care of spoke volumes about Doug's life and the far reach his impact on others had. The nursing and staff were moved by his peace in leaving this world to be in the arms of Jesus. They were moved by the sincere love and support of others, and they too were pointed to what mattered to Doug the most... showing off the love of Jesus.
This week has been a beautiful reminder of why we each need community and that we were designed to do life together, to lean into the awkward and be there for each other in the fun times, hard times, and sad times. If you do not know this peace, Doug's family would love to share the story of Jesus with you. Doug would love for you to know the feeling of being filled with peace and hope.
