Dwight was born February 11, 1943 in West Palm Beach, Florida. When Dwight was three, his family moved to Denver where his sister Susan (Sue) was born. He graduated from South High School, then University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business. For over fifty years, he proudly worked as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Controller, primarily in the construction industry. Dwight married in June 1974, and his son, Grant, was born in 1977. In 1985, Dwight and Patricia (Patt) met and were married four years later. Dwight welcomed Patt’s children, Eric, Lisa and Sean Lear, into his life.
Dwight’s interests were varied and included a passion for history and science, which met his intellectual nature. He enjoyed skiing as well as playing tennis, piano, guitar, chess and solitaire on the computer. Together, he and Patt took pleasure in traveling, hiking, and sailing their boat “The Shamrock.” While sailing, Grant and Patt worked the rigging while Dwight singlehandedly manned the sails and boom. They were reasonably ok, until a burst of wind would roll the boat on its side with the sails hitting the water, leaving the adventurers hanging on for dear life. Grant and Patt were horrified, but Dwight’s calm demeanor was always at play. As Dwight would say, the boat righted itself and all were safe…until another burst.
Dwight was known for his honesty, positivity, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and great smile. He taught his grandchildren magic tricks and how to make German pancakes and regaled everyone with “dad jokes.” He is survived by his wife, Patt, children Grant Meredith (Ginnie), Eric Lear (Nina), Lisa Padilla (Kelly), Sean Lear, six grandchildren, and sister Susan Bowser.
In Dwight’s memory, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
A celebration of life is anticipated for summer of 2026.
