Edith "Maxine" Muth, age 88, passed away January 2, 2014 from complications due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Born May 22, 1925, in Craven County, North Carolina to Leroy T. Powell and Mattie Mashburn Powell, Maxine worked on the family farm and was a graduate of Dover High School. She attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, NC. Maxine began working for Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA in 1943. She met her husband, William (Bill) Muth, in Hampton, VA in 1952 where they were both staying at the same boarding house. They were married in March, 1953 and the two moved to Colorado, Bill's former home, in 1956. His job took them to Albuquerque, where Maxine immediately fell in love with the countryside of New Mexico and Colorado. Over the next 23 years, Bill's job took them to places throughout the Western United States. In 1979 they settled into their current home in Denver, CO.
A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and cousin, Maxine is survived by her husband of 61 years, Bill Muth, son, Garnons Muth, and sister, Barbara Davenport. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Her son, John Muth, and daughter, Lee Muth, preceded Maxine in death, as did two sisters, Faye Fields, and Ruby McCoy.
Maxine truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: collecting rocks from all over the western states, the desert and mountains, listening to music (particularly jazz), and spending time with family playing games. She was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and basketball. Maxine had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Family, friends and others whose life Maxine touched are invited to attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the East Metro Chapel - Newcomer Funeral Home, 190 Potomac St., Aurora, CO 80011. In accordance with Maxine's wishes, there was cremation. On completion of the services, a reception will be held at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Maxine's name to Advocacy Denver (formerly ARC of Denver) 1905 Sherman St, Suite 300, Denver, CO 80203, or to a charity of your choice.
