Edith May Schneider

85, of Aurora, CO, passed away on July 28, 2015. She was born September 5, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA to Walter F. and Eleanor A. Schneider. Her family moved to Orrville, OH and then to Canton, OH where she graduated from McKinley High School. She received a BA from Capital University, Columbus, OH in 1951 and an MA in Library Sciences from the University of Michigan in 1958. Edith began her career as a Post Librarian for the US Army and was stationed in Japan, the Panama Canal Zone, Korea and the United States (Fort Carson, CO and Fort Devens, MA). She spent 22 years with the CIA: in the National Photographic Interpretation Center as a Librarian, Chief of Reference, Deputy Chief and then Chief of the Library and of the Information Branch and Career Development Officer; in the Education for Public Managers Program for post graduate training at Cornell University; as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist, she was Deputy Director for Affirmative Action and Federal Women's Program Manager; and finally as Personnel Officer of the staff responsible for CIA personnel policy. Retiring in 1986, she moved to Aurora, CO to enjoy her many friends, family and hobbies of reading, music, travelling, the Colorado Rockies and singing in the Senior Elite Choir as a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. She was active in Friends of the Aurora Public Library and the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Walter and Edward and nephew Kurt Schneider. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Vivian Schneider, of Littleton, CO; nieces, Kristin (Stanley) McDonald of Longmont, CO and Holle (Gary) Loar of Winter Haven, FL; nephews Craig Schneider of Monticello, NM, Todd Schneider and Jay Schneider of Canton, OH; grand-nephews Michael (Janeen) McDonald of Denver and Kyle McDonald of Longmont, CO; grand-nieces Carrie (Chris) Koss of Firestone, CO and Courtney McDonald of Longmont, CO; and many other grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. She will be missed by family, her many friends and her care-givers Kim, Judy and Vonne.
