Listen to Obituary

Edward Joseph Svatos, 75, passed away on October 20, 2025. Born November 11, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska, Ed was known for his generosity, humor, and proud service to his country.

Ed grew up in Omaha and attended South High School, where he excelled in drafting and enjoyed working on his 1957 Chevy. He left school early to enlist in the U.S. Army, beginning a distinguished 22-year career. Rising to the rank of Sergeant First Class, he served as a Finance Specialist, ensuring soldiers were paid accurately. His service included tours in Vietnam, Germany—where he witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall—and Kuwait for Operation Desert Storm. During his Army career he was stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen, TX, and Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, CO.

After the Army, Ed worked for Air Wisconsin at Denver International Airport and King Soopers in Aurora. He later enjoyed retirement in Texas and lived with his daughter Julia, son-in-law Derek, and grandsons Aiden and Ethan, proudly supporting their schools and community activities.

Ed loved Nebraska Cornhusker football, the Denver Broncos, and Super Bowl squares. He was a lucky lottery scratch-off player, an avid bowler, excelled at playing Pac-Man, and was a man who never met a stranger. His humor, kindness, and big heart touched everyone around him.

He is survived by his daughters Julia Drake and Michele Svatos; son-in-law Derek Drake, grandsons Aiden and Ethan Drake; mother Fern Svatos (108); siblings Fay Williams, Dee Svatos, Rick Svatos, and Craig Svatos. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto Svatos, and daughter Denise Baier.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Aurora Hills Golf Course, 50 S. Peoria St. in Aurora at 4 pm.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Kahler-Dolce Mortuary in Papillion, NE with visitation at 11:45 a.m. and service at 12:30 p.m. Ed will be interred with military honors at Omaha National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

He will be remembered always as a proud veteran, devoted father and grandfather, and a man with a heart of gold.
