Edwin Lee "Ed" Hobbs, 66, of Aurora, Colorado formerly of Hookstown/Georgetown, Pennsylvania passed away July 1, 2014. Ed graduated from South Side High school in Hookstown, class of 1965.
He spent his early years working at Hobbs Dairy, the family farm business where he developed skills and a knack for fixing things. For a number of years he worked as a Mate on the barges on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers and was a licensed Pilot on the Ohio.
He succumbed to the lure of Colorado and the Rocky Mountains and moved to Aurora in the 1970s where he worked for Power Equipment Company and Wagner Equipment/Caterpillar. He retired as a heavy equipment mechanic from Wagner.
From a Union Pacific locomotive engine to a bicycle there are few things that his skilled mechanic's hands could not rebuild or repair. It was rare that his garage didn't house a Corvette or other vehicle that had more horsepower than could comfortably fit under the hood.
Ed is survived by his son Grant of Aurora, his three brothers David (Geraldine) of Colonial Beach, Virginia, Paul (Jan) of Columbia, Missouri, and Dr. John (Judy) of Hookstown, Pennsylvania. He is preceded in death by his father and mother Robert and Helen and infant brother Robert Franklin Hobbs.
