Edwin M. DeVries
April 30, 1930 ~ November 13, 2012
Ed was born in Ackley, Iowa, to Jacob and Louise DeVries. He died peacefully in a care home in Castle Rock, Colorado, from Alzheimer's Disease. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty (Reckard) DeVries; 4 sons; 1 daughter; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Because of the difficult economic times his father asked him to quit school in 7th grade to help on the family farm. Ed believed that education was very important and choose to leave home and work for a neighboring farmer who allowed him to go to school during the day and milk cows after school for room and board. He graduated from High School in Clear Lake, Iowa.
Ed continued his education in Ottumwa, Iowa, at Midwestern School of Evangelism where he recieved his Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies in 1955 and his Master's in 1956. His first ministry was in Centralia, Illinois. He was an instructor at his Alma Mater in the late 1960's and held over 100 revival meetings from coast to coast. He started Rocky Mountain College of Christ in Arvada in 1970 and Nationwide Youth Roundup in Sedalia, Colorado in 1972. He also authored several books on theological subjects.
Ed's first passion was preaching, studying, and teaching other's about the Bible. He was also a notorious pratical joker. He loved to keep people from getting too serious with his sense of humor and jovial manner.
Viewing Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 9 A.M. till 11 A.M., Funeral service 11 A.M. both at Valley View Christian Church, 11004 Wildfield Lane, Littleton, Colorado 80125. Reception to follow the funeral service at the church. Interment at Bear Canon Cemetery, West of Hwy 105 on Pine Cliff Ave., Sedalia, Colorado, following the reception.
