It is with profound sadness, yet with faith in God’s promises, that we announce the passing of Eliseo Zamora Guajardo, who entered into the loving presence of his Savior on June 19, 2026, at the age of 82. Surrounded by the love of his devoted wife, Catherine, and faithful pastors, he passed peacefully at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans’ Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Eliseo was born in Progreso, Mexico, to the late Eduardo and Francisca Zamora Guajardo. He spent his early years in Progreso before moving to Laredo, Texas, where he graduated from high school. In 1964, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and embarked on a distinguished 22-year military career.
His service took him across the world, including an assignment in Korea during the Vietnam War, where he proudly served with the supply unit known as the “Mule Skinners.” While stationed in Denver, Colorado, he met the love of his life, Catherine Anne Jiron. Their journey together began on June 8, 1968, and blossomed into a beautiful marriage that spanned nearly 58 years, built on faith, devotion, and love.
Following their marriage, Eliseo and Catherine made their home in Commerce City, Colorado, before military assignments led them to Torrejón Air Force Base near Madrid, Spain; San Bernardino, California; New Mexico; and back to Spain. Along the way, they welcomed and raised their son and daughter, creating a loving family rooted in strong values and enduring faith. Eliseo concluded his military career at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he retired with honor in 1986.
Retirement did not mark the end of his service to others. Driven by compassion and a desire to make a difference, Eliseo earned a master’s degree in social work and became a dedicated advocate for individuals experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. He later joined the New Mexico VA Health Care System as a Social Worker, where he tirelessly served fellow veterans. His extraordinary kindness, empathy, and commitment to patient care earned him the prestigious VA Hands and Heart Award, recognizing his dedication far beyond the call of duty.
Family was at the center of Eliseo’s life. He and Catherine shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring Europe, mostly Spain, and participating in mission trips to Mexico. They treasured time spent RVing across the country, attending annual Mule Skinners reunions in Tennessee, and enjoying performances at the Grand Ole Opry. After returning to Colorado in 2015, Eliseo delighted in fishing at Turquoise and Grand Lake and cheering on the Denver Broncos alongside his both brothers-and sisters-in-laws.
Although he and Catherine spent the last four years in Saugus, Massachusetts, to be closer to family, his heart remained forever connected to family, friends and the beauty of Colorado.
Eliseo leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and unconditional love. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Catherine A. Guajardo; his daughter, Dr. Almudena “Almi” Guajardo Abeyta and her husband, Walter, of Saugus, Massachusetts; and his son, Eliseo Jiron Guajardo and his wife, Camille, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Elisabeth Abeyta, Gabriela Guajardo, Sante Guajardo, Estrella “Starri” Guajardo, and Samuel Guajardo, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.
He is also survived by his loving sisters, Mari Guajardo Salinas, Laura Guajardo Vasquez, and Norma Guajardo Cano, as well as many extended family members, friends, fellow veterans, and all whose lives were touched by his generosity and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in honor of Eliseo’s memory to the Chelsea Rotary Scholarship Fund, reflecting his lifelong dedication to service, education, and community.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staff of Mass General Brigham, as well as the dedicated caregivers of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit, for the exceptional care, dignity, and compassion they provided during Eliseo’s final journey.
Though his earthly journey has ended, his faith, strength, kindness, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the countless lives he touched through a lifetime of service to God, his country, and his community.
