Betty Jones---Honoring her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend

Betty Jones was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1926 to David Albert Christ and Mildred Lenore Christ. She was the fifth of six children, and the only girl. She was known as "Liz" to her brothers, Warren, Larry, Lamar, Bob and Charley. She attended school in Tamaqua, played drums in the high school marching band and was involved in her church.

Betty enrolled in the Nursing School at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia and then worked at George Washington University Hospital in Washington D.C. She and Wayne Jones were married in Sanford, Florida on August 8, 1952.

Following a move to Aurora, Colorado, their first child, Judy was born. Betty and Wayne bought their first home on Zinnia Way in Lakewood. This was the family home when their second daughter, Nancy, their only son, Bobby and their youngest daughter, Patty were born. Betty and Wayne moved to Miami, Florida and she became friends with new neighbors and learned to live with nature's tropical pests. She readily supported the decision to move back to Colorado after Wayne's retirement.

She loved to cook and welcomed all who came to her home. Betty learned to play golf so that she could spend time with Wayne. As Betty and Wayne's children grew, they provided the opportunity for each one to attend college and then paid for the college tuition of each of their grandchildren, as well. They welcomed each son-in-law into the family when their daughters married.

The first of several significant traumas for Betty was the death of their son, Bobby. He had lived with diabetes for nearly twenty-five years and it suddenly took his life in August 1991. This hurt so deeply, but Bobby's memory was an inspiration for Betty and Wayne to push through whatever life presented.

Betty had six grandchildren and each one was special to her in their own way. When three of their grandchildren married, she welcomed the "grand-in-laws" into the family. Since then, they have had six great-grandchildren.

Betty and Wayne traveled to many interesting countries across the world including many places in Europe, Australia and England. Other interests included playing bridge, movies from the 1940's and 1950's, reading and sewing.

Nancy, their second child, passed away suddenly in 2007. As traumatic as this was, she and Wayne traveled to Georgia to be with Nancy's family.

Over the last several years, following two significant strokes, Betty has lived with progressive dementia. However, she was always content and loved to have visitors. Last May, Wayne passed away at the age of 89. Betty was heartbroken, but the good fortune of dementia stood in the way of Betty suffering that loss as many must endure. Now, they are reunited.

Betty was constantly devoted to her family. She will be missed, and we take comfort that her struggles have ended.
