Elsie Johnson

May 24, 1928 — May 21, 2013

Elsie Johnson was born in McCook Nebraska, May 24, 1928. She was the youngest daughter of 10 children of Jacob and Pauline Koch (Becker) of German decent, who immigrated from Brunnental, Russia in 1907.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Floyd A. Johnson, her son Richard L. Johnson, her granddaughter, Danielle G.Johnson, brother Samuel Koch, sisters Marie (Schneider), Bertha (Schorzman), Edna (Zuege) and Gladys (Fisher), two baby sisters Pauline (1912) and Esther(1916).

She is survived by sons James (Patricia K.) and Jake (Patricia E.), daughter Gail Ann Jean (Russ), grandchildren Angela, Jeremiah, Brandy and E.J., great-grandchildren Desirae and Conner, brothers Harry (Carmie) and Benjamin and several nieces and nephews.

She grew up on the family farm in Box Elder (Derby, Colorado). She graduated from Brighton High School in 1946. She married Floyd A. Johnson, December 12, 1949. They were original home owner's in Hoffman Heights (Aurora, Colorado) from 1951 until Elsie's recent passing. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, who all spent a lot of time with their grandparents while they were growing up. She loved her grandkids more than anything and everyone knew "what happens at Grandma's, stays at Grandma's." (Like ice cream for breakfast!)

Elsie was an Aurora Public Schools (Lynn Knoll Elementary) cook for 20 years after her children were grown. She was well known for her kindness and generosity to the staff by leaving them little goodies for the afternoon. The kids enjoyed the products of her labor, too (pizza, cinnamon rolls) and her co-workers enjoyed her easy-to-be-with style and friendship. She was well known on the home front for her great family style cooking. Cooking and baking were among her many talents and passions in life. Floyd and Elsie were very generous people, always including anyone who didn't have a place to go at the holiday table. The Johnson's grew a large extended family over the years who still join us for family events.

As a teen, her best friend and soul sister was Marguerite (Jones) and they learned to quilt from Marguerite's mother. Over the years , quilting became a passion for Elsie and she made many, many beautiful quilts for family and friends. She showed a Broken Star Quilt at the Colorado State Capital Quilt Show in 2011. Elsie was a long-time member of the Quilter's Group and Silver Sneakers Group at the Aurora Senior Center.

Elsie had a green thumb which she passed on to her sons, Jim and Jake. She was known for having the most beautiful roses in the neighborhood. She also passed down her love and talent for cooking to her daughter, Gail Ann.

Elsie left this world to be reunited with the love of her life, Floyd, on May 21, 2013. She will be forever missed.
