Elsie M. Welk, age 89 went to join our Heavenly Father on Friday, June 20. Elsie is survived by her husband of 68 years Bob. Sons, Ronald R. (Joan) Welk and, Larry D. Welk; daughters, Candace A. (Karl) Dreher and Cecilia M. (Greg) Leadens; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Ronald (Elaine) Stoller and Ed (Blanche) Stoller and sister, Dorothy Balderson. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Stoller, brother, John Robert Stoller and daughter, Mary J. Welk.
Elsie was born on the family farm near Indianola, Nebraska on November 30, 1924 to John and Lydia Stoller. She was the the oldest of five children and attended school in a one-room country school house. After attending College in McCook she worked as a school teacher and later as a waitress where she met Vicki Welk; who later introduced Elsie to her brother, Bob, who had just returned home from serving in World War II. They married in 1946 and farmed near Palisade, Nebraska. Seven years later they moved to Denver. In addition to being a loving mother of their 5 children, Elsie spent her time canning, pickling, cooking, sewing, cake decorating and gardening.
I
n the 1960's she completed her LPN training at Saint Luke's hospital in Denver where she worked until she retired. During her time at Saint Luke's, she was also active in the Colorado LPN nurses association.
Upon retirement Elsie and her husband Bob moved to the mountains outside of Woodland Park. They enjoyed road trips all over the country in their Winnebago with community and church friends.
Elsie was a supportive, kind and generous friend, mother and wife who displayed her faith through her actions to everyone that she met. Elsie will be dearly missed on earth by all who knew her.
