Emadee Thode , 89, of Thornton, passed away February 18, 2016.
She was born May 6, 1926 in Burr Oak, Kansas, the daughter of John and Nora (Beanblossom) Gleason. Emadee had infantile paralysis and learned to walk when she was 2 years old. She was a graduate of Burr Oak High School. Emadee had saved money from her high school job to move from Kansas to Denver at age 18. Her first job at a grocery store in Denver paid $15.16 per week for 48 hours of work. Emadee met Eugene Thode at this store where he delivered Hostess cake products. They married on March 19, 1949. Eventually, they settled in Thornton. Emadee learned to drive at age 33 with three small children in the back seat. Emadee enjoyed baking, especially pies. She learned to snow ski at 40 at the same time her husband and children took up the sport. Dee and Gene skied long enough to ski with grandchildren.
Emadee loved Bible study and singing hymns; she was involved in Bible Study Fellowship and church studies. Both Emadee and Gene were always available to help any friend or family member who was sick or in need. Her greatest joy was in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Every prayer included gratitude for her family and petitions on their behalf. Retirement with her husband included bowling, square dancing, and bike riding. Many motorhome trips were taken; they drove the motorhome in 48 states, only missing New Hampshire and Hawaii.
Emadee is survived by two sons, Thomas Lee (Martha) Thode and Don E. (Barb) Thode; one daughter, M. Susan (Howard) Knutson; six grandchildren, Lisa (Bernie) Martinez, Chad (Jill) Knutson, Stephanie (Brian) Doyle, Zachary (Sherryl) Thode, Heather (Ryan) Thode-Wood and Adam (Erica) Thode; twelve great-grandchildren, Anna Martinez, Erin Martinez, Parker Thode, Kizzy Thode, Clara Knutson, Kerwood Thode, Janny Knutson, Adelaide Thode, McKenna Doyle, Brielle Thode, Landon Doyle and Caroline Thode; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, Eugene Thode, father, John Gleason, mother, Nora Gleason, three brothers, Tobias Gleason, David Gleason, and Myron Gleason, five sisters, Florence Lewis, Fern Bliss, Marilyn Gleason, Louise Stedman, and Carol Pugh.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Emadee's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
