Esther Walk Liehr, 99, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Friday October 11, 2013 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood, CO. She had lived in Colorado for the past 7 years near her son, Roger and his family.
Esther was born April 29, 1914 in Milton, IL the daughter of Lincoln Teter Walk and Nettie Cornelia Martin Walk. She married Paul Wilson Liehr from Perry, Illinois on August 16,1939, and he preceded her in death in 1965.
She is survived by her three sons Douglas Paul Liehr (Susan) of Huron, OH, Roger Alan Liehr (Kathryn) of Lakewood, CO, Kenneth Bradley Liehr (Cathryn) of Salt Lake City, UT. Grandchildren Matt, Warren, (Doug) Jason, Angie, Emma, (Roger) Candice, Crystal (Ken) and great grandchildren Christina, Alexandria (Matt), Aiden, Allison, (Warren), Jackson, Peyton (Jason) Jonah (Candice), Lucas (Crystal). Daughter Marjorie Kay preceded her death in 1946.
Esther graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Home Economics. After Paul's death she started teaching at Thornton and Thornwood Township High Schools in 1965 and retired 19 years later. Esther was a very strong person with large focus on family, friends and church. She kept close ties with both sides of the family and welcomed many to come and stay for extended periods of time. She had great pride in getting all three sons through college after Paul's death. She also took pride in living in the home that Paul built in Riverdale, IL surrounded by the many pieces of furniture that he made.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.
There will be a graveside service on Friday, November 8 at 2:30 pm at Washington Memory Gardens In Homewood, IL (Paul and Marjorie's final resting place). Future plans are to have a Celebration of Life in spring 2014. Details of the celebration will come later. Memorials may be sent to American Heart Association.
