Eugene Elbert Winklepleck, 88, of Littleton, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013.
He was born December 11, 1924, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Frank and Bessie (Wells) Winklepleck.
He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. Eugene was employed by Martin Marietta and Winklepleck Brothers Trucking.
Mr. Winklepleck was a member of the U.S. Merchant Marine Veterans World War II Colorado Chapter. He received the following military awards while serving with the Merchant Marines: WWII Veteran (Merchant Marine), Merchant Marine Emblem, Atlantic War Zone Bar, Pacific War Zone Bar, Mediterranean - Middle East War Zone Bar, Combat (With Stars), Victory Medal, Honorable Service Button, and Presidential Testimonial Letter
Eugene married Delores Russell in 1942; they were married 70 years and she preceded him in death in 2012. Survivors include a Daughter, Linda J. (Pat) Leonard, Son, David E. (Vicki) Winklepleck, Grandson, Patrick E. (Mandy) Leonard, Granddaughter, Fawn A. (Ken) Farris, Granddaughter, Dawnell K. (Matt) Kring, Grandson, Eugene F.(Ashley) Winklepleck, Grandson, Kenneth L. (Crystal) McLaughlin, Granddaughter, Melissa A. (C. J.) Horn. He was preceded in death by his Daughter, Pamela Ann Moore
Eugene was a member of Rockland Community Church in Golden. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and camping.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 8,2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home - West Metro Chapel.
A Funeral Ceremony will be 10:00 am., Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Newcomer Funeral Home - West Metro Chapel, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, in Wheat Ridge, CO.
