Eugene Hering

May 26, 1927 — April 16, 2019

Eugene Hering was born in Stockheim by Brackenheim, Germany on May 26, 1927. He was the fourth of six sons and two daughters born to Wilhelm and Anna Hering. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his brothers Albert, Otto, Karl, Johannes (Hans), and Alfred, and his sister Minna. He is survived by Christa Hering (his wife of 66 years); his children William, John, Inge, and Thomas; grandchildren Alexander, Jill, Clayton, Hannah, Sadie, Allyce, Kristin, and Lauren; numerous great grandchildren; his sister Anna Regina Fiedler (Zaberfeld, Germany); his sister-in-law Rose Hering (Stockheim, Germany); and numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom reside in Germany.

After graduating from the 8th grade Eugene entered a gardening trade school in Guglingen, Germany. At the age of 16 he was drafted into the German Army during World War ll. He was discharged on November 29, 1945. He continued his gardening career at the Tobacco Versuchs und Lehr Gut in Forchheim, Germany It was while at the trade school he met Christa Adelheid Herion and they were later married in Morsch by Karlsruhe, Germany on December 15, 1952. In 1953 Eugene responded to an advertisement for a gardening position near Salina, Kansas. Christa traveled ahead of Eugene. He arrived in Baltimore, MD on March 23, 1954 via the Holland America MV Noordam, and was reunited with Christa at the CK ranch near Brookville.

Eugene and Christa's stay at the CK ranch was short-lived. Though hired as a gardener, the lack of water resulted in him working as a ranch hand. At night, he studied welding at the local community college, purchased a car, built his own trailer, and traveled from Kansas to Denver, CO with Christa and newborn William in tow. Eugene worked for Eaton Metal Fabrication and other welding shops for a number of years. He later found the job of his dreams working as a gardener for John M. King. Other employment included a journeyman carpenter for Judd Construction, maintenance supervisor for Downings (and later Silo), and a gardener for the Kushner's in Arvada, CO.

When not working on a house or cabin construction project, Eugene avidly pursued his hobbies of gardening and hunting. In his later years he loved spending time with his grand and great grand children, all of whom have fond memories of Eugene. All who crossed his path were in some way blessed by having known him. We thank our Heavenly Father for the memory of Eugene.
