Eva Maria Martinez, a vibrant spirit brimming with color and warmth, gracefully departed this world on June 25, 2025, at her home in Denver, Colorado, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 13, 1940, in the picturesque town of Chama, Colorado, Eva led a life rich in love, laughter, and cherished memories, radiating her passion for life in every endeavor she undertook.
Throughout her career, Eva embraced her roles with enthusiasm and dedication. She lent her talents to renowned establishments such as Colorado Laundry, Brown Palace, Russell Stover's Chocolate, and the San Marino Retirement Community, even establishing her own cleaning service along the way. Each day of work was an opportunity for her to engage with others, an extension of her warmth and friendliness that made her a beloved figure in her community.
Known for her exquisite culinary skills, particularly her empanadas, sweet rice, and menudo. Eva had a magical ability to gather family and friends, turning every meal into a cherished occasion. Her home was a sanctuary of love. Every family trip and celebration was a testament to her inclusive and nurturing spirit. A passionate conversationalist, she could weave stories that enthralled listeners, reconnecting souls around her kitchen table and filling hearts with joy.
Those who had the fortune to know her often reflected on her profound love for her family. Eva was not just a mother and grandmother; she was the very embodiment of love and dedication. She delighted in raising her children. She is survived by her loving children Abbe Montoya, Gay Ann Martinez, and Andrew (Amy); and poured her heart into each of her grandchildren: Serina (Ben), Ashley, Dominic, Lorenzo (Rachel), Blake, and Donovan. Her pride in them was palpable, their happiness her greatest accomplishment.
Eva's zest for life extended beyond her family; she was an adventurer at heart. Whether it was dancing to the rhythm of life, discovering the thrill of fishing or panning for gold in serene waters, or reveling in the beauty of a road trip, she immersed herself in each experience, creating lasting memories for those around her. Together with her husband, Sisto Roger Martinez, they created a tapestry of love woven with the threads of shared experiences and precious moments.
Born of Eulalia and Jose Ramon Sanchez, Eva carried their legacy forward, although her heart ached with the memory of her departed brother Horacio Sanchez and sisters Theresa Serna and Julia Vigil. Her surviving sister, Erma Gomez, shares in the warmth of their childhood, reminiscing about the laughter that once filled their lives.
With a personality perfectly balanced between passion and inquisitiveness, Eva was fiercely protective of her family and yet welcoming to all. Her optimism shone brightly, illuminating even the darkest days, while her spicy charm ensured that no one ever felt alone. As she dances among the stars, may her spirit continue to watch over her beloved family and friends, leaving an indelible mark on each heart she touched.
Eva’s life will be celebrated on July 14, 2025, with services held at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro in Denver. The day will commence with a gathering at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 11:00 a.m., culminating in a heartfelt Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. The day will honor not only her departure but the joyful life she embraced and all who were fortunate enough to be part of her journey.
