Eva Ingeborg Ortiz, age 97, passed away peacefully at 11:00 PM in the home of her eldest daughter in Denver, Colorado. In her final moments, Eva opened her eyes and took her last breath surrounded by the love of her family, who held her close and assured her it was time to go home. Her final 29 hours were a testament to the life she built—filled with the laughter and presence of the many family members she cherished.
A Journey of Love and Faith
Born in Berlin, Germany, on November 1, 1928, to Wally and Alex Hoffmann, Eva’s life was defined by a spirit of adventure and a deep, abiding faith. It was in the aftermath of the war in Germany that she met the love of her life, Ernest Ortiz. They were wed on July 4, 1948, beginning a marriage that would span decades and continents.
Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Ernest’s hometown of Waipahu, Hawaii, to begin their family. As a devoted military spouse, Eva navigated the challenges of Ernest’s Army service and several tours around the world. In 1970, the family relocated to Aurora, Colorado, to ensure their youngest son received the specialized medical care he required—a move that demonstrated Eva's lifelong commitment to her children.
Faith was the quiet force that centered Eva’s world. Her deep spiritual calling led her to a life of devotion, marked by her weekly Bible study and her commitment to reading the Word every single day. She found her greatest peace and comfort in the words of Matthew 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”
A Vibrant Spirit
Eva was a woman of many passions. She loved the ocean, gardening, swimming, and the beauty of Hawaii. An artist at heart, she spent her time painting, dancing, and staying connected with the world through her computer. She was a prolific writer, frequently sending letters to her sisters in Germany, her children, grandchildren, and her countless friends. Above all, Eva was the prayer warrior of her family, offering daily intercession and wisdom to those she loved.
Family Legacy
Eva is reunited in heaven with her parents, Wally and Alex Hoffmann; her beloved husband, Ernest Ortiz; and their eldest son, Ernest Clifford Ortiz, her younger sister, Christa Sohr; grandson, Bryan Ortiz; and great-granddaughter, Hope Ortiz.
- Surviving family: one remaining younger sister, Helga Glock.
She leaves behind a massive, loving legacy in her seven children: Wayne (Shari), Sandra (Nyle), Deborah, Bruce (Genise), Alex (Teresa), Gregory (Linda), and Brian (Linda). Her light lives on through 21 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and her younger sister Helga Glock.
A Request for Color: In honor of "Oma's" favorite flower, the Bird of Paradise, we encourage all guests to wear bright, vibrant colors—deep blues, purples, greens, oranges, yellows, and pinks. Just as the Bird of Paradise symbolizes the soul taking flight, freedom, and transcendence, we celebrate that God said, "Come to Me," and Eva has finally flown home.
