Jose Feliciano Lucero, 99, of Denver, went to heaven on December 19th, 2014.
Felix was born in Santiago, New Mexico to Carlotta Sanchez. He joined the Army in 1942 and was stationed in Burma of Southeast Asia. His great grandson, James Lobato, commented, "It is amazing as a fourth generation to know that my great grandpa is a World War II veteran and I will able to tell to my girls about their great grandfather serving our country.". After serving in the military, he settled into Denver, Colorado where he had different positions of employment and began a family.
After retiring from the City of Denver as a truck driver, Felix enjoyed spending time with his family. Many people could also find him at the dog track or at the casinos in Blackhawk. As his grandchildren and great grandchildren grew, he would have them accompany him to cheer the dog he selected or spin the wheels of the slots. His grandson Mark would occasionally join him at the Rivera Casino. Mark stated, "Mano, gonna miss our trips to the hill. Love you."
Felix is survived by four children: Virginia Lobato, Charles Lucero, Roberto Lucero, and Gregory Lucero of Denver. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and even more great, great grandchildren. In addition, he survived by his siblings Mary Martinez, Pedro Montoya and Cecil Montoya. Felix is preceded into death by his mom Carlotta Sanchez, his daughter Selina Rosella Graham and siblings Raymond Lucero and Francis Medina.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday December 30th, 2014 at Newcomer Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Rosary immediately following. Services will be held on Wednesday December 31st, 2014 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. followed by the burial at Fort Logan Cemetery.
