Florrene Streat McCray passed away in Denver, Colorado on January 13, 2016.
Having cancer three times, dreaded it might return again but had a good life in Utah and Colorado.
She was born to Claude H. Streat and Julia Ruth (Matthews) Streat on April 21, 1924. She attended Clinton, Iowa schools and Community College, studying business.
Mrs. McCray worked part time at the City Bank and was a night correspondent for the Davenport, Iowa Democrat Newspaper. In 1960 she joined the United Commercial Travelers and Fraternal Benefit Society and served as their Secretary for many years, going on to be a Post Grand Chancellor of the State of Iowa. In 1986 she was elected Supreme Councilor of the Internal President in the United States and Canada at the Duffy Hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mrs. McCray was also Past President of the Clinton Junior Women's Club and served three times on the Clinton Police Auxiliary. She was also a Past President of Gamma Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, having joined in October, 1964 and taking a leave in May 1994 as a Laureate member. She was also a board member of Agatha of Jane Lamb Hospital and served on the Evangelism and Elder Council of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton, Iowa. Mrs. McCray was also a Past President of Tri B Women's Club. She loved community service and also assisted in running the Attic Thrift Shop at Jane Lamb Hospital.
Most of all she loved playing Bridge with her loved ones and many dear friends.
She cherished and loved her children that she leaves behind: Sharon (Mark) Hall, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Larry (Jennifer) McCray of Taos, New Mexico; also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Iowa. She will now be with her dear mother and brother who both passed away from Cancer.
Mrs. McCray will be cremated and there will be no visitation or services. Her ashes will be laid to rest with the love of her life, her beloved husband, Harry McCray, who passed away January 25, 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or any local animal shelter in memory of Florrene A. McCray.
