Denver-raised magazine writer Frances Traher passed away peacefuly on April 3, 2012. Wife of internationally acclaimed mural painter William Traher (1908-1984), Frances's professional career was distinguished by 7 Colorado Authors League Top Hand awards. She was best known for her feature articles in national art publications, as well as dozens of fiction stories exploring contemporary women's issues. In the 1940s, Frances worked as an account executive and copywriter for Gray & Company, Inc., a Denver advertising agency. During WWII, Frances was Continuity Director at KOY Radio in Phoenix, AZ. Working alongside announcer Steve Allen, who later became a popular TV personality, she oversaw station programming and hosted her own radio show. Frances is survived by 3 children, Anita Gilbertson of Arvada, CO, and Elissa Traher and Steven Traher of Boston, MA. Services will be private. Donations may be made to the Hospice of Saint John.

Credited with innovation of the "story-article"—fully researched medical, legal, psychiatric or sociological magazine features with an entertaining, humorous or emotional story line. Listed in the first edition of Who's Who in American Women and in Who's Who in Colorado. Winner of 3 Macfadden-Bartell merit awards in a field of 17,000 plus manuscripts. Writer of scripts, speeches, presentations for KOY in Phoenix, AZ. Wrote, broadcast and interviewed guest stars on own program, one of the first daily talk shows ever produced.

Ex: Denver City Council, Denver Planning Board , Denver Parks and Recreation Department; The Cherry Hills Garden Club, and many art commissions and committees from local betterment groups all over Colorado.

Worked with members of the Colorado Legislature and the official commissions designed to study of "problems of the aging" during the 2-1/2 period when her father, then 89 years old, was one of the active coordinating sponsors of the successful bill to assure rent refunds to Colorado's low-income elderly.

As an Air Force Base civilian aid in Special Services (Public Relations), earned a Civil Service G-IV rating. Her job included establishing cooperation between the various service organizations in the community (U.S.O., libraries, Red Cross) and their counterparts on the military base.

Taught extension classes at D.U. and served as a speaker at the University's writer's conference.

Served for 2 years as head of the copy department of the Philip H. Gray Incorporated Agency during the time that the organization handled public relations and advertising for major companies including Container Corporation of America and sponsorship of Aspen which marked the change from a near-ghost town to an international resort.
