Frank Dobler, born February 12, 1940, passed away on March 16, 2026, after a life rich in music, family, and service to others.
Frank was married to Marilyn Dobler for 62 years. Frank and Marilyn met in high school and were married in St. Louis, Missouri, beginning a partnership that spanned more than six decades and every chapter of adult life.
After graduating from college and briefly teaching in Missouri, Frank and Marilyn moved to Chicago, Illinois, to pursue his career in music education. Frank devoted three decades to teaching choral music at Wheeling High School, where generations of students were shaped by Frank’s passion, discipline, mentorship, and love of music. Frank taught there until retiring in 1997.
Following retirement, Frank and Marilyn built their dream home and relocated to Conifer, Colorado, where they lived together until the end. In the final six months of life, Frank resided at and was well cared for by the team at Morningstar's memory care in Arvada, Colorado.
Music was central to Frank’s life. He founded the Wheeling High School Madrigal Singers in 1969, a program that continued many years after his departure. During his tenure, his Madrigal Singers recorded several albums, performed in numerous venues throughout the United States, and in several countries. He mentored students using his talents within the Music Department to incorporate life lessons within the musical curriculum.
Beyond the classroom, Frank conducted and supported numerous church choirs over the years, sharing musical gifts generously with faith communities and friends alike. Frank also had a deep love for sports (go Cardinals and Mizzou), new cars and, above all, for family.
Frank is survived by a beloved spouse, Marilyn, son Michael Sr. and spouse Elizabeth, grandchildren Michael Jr., Jesse, Hannah, Samantha, and great granddaughter Aria; and son Brian and spouse Krystal, with grandchildren Sylvia and Russell. He is preceded by his sister Carol Woods, mother Carol, and father Frank Dobler Sr.
Frank will be remembered for a lifetime of music, dedication to students, devotion to family, and the enduring partnership shared with Marilyn. Frank’s family honors a life well lived.
