Saburo "Fred" Aoki, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at home peacefully with his family present. He was born on November 22, 1919 in Clarksburg, California to Yogiro and Mitsuno Aoki. He married Chiyeko in 1941 in Sacremento, California and they moved to Denver, Colorado in 1941. They opened Fred's Place in 1942 and later it became Akebono Restaurant in 1960. Fred enjoyed golf and playing pool with friends and family. The family sold the restaurant in 2000 and after retirement Fred and Chiyeko enjoyed going out to eat with family and going "up the hill".
He was preceded in death by his wife, Chiyeko, brothers Takuma, and Charlie and sister, Chiyeko. Fred is survived by five children: Michi Kajiwara, Jeff Aoki, Midori Pitler, Eric (Ann) Aoki, and Rex (Harumi) Aoki; seven grandchildren: Pam (Craig) Berube, Kevin (Joy) Kajiwara, Toshiko Furlong (Sam), Kaori Furlong, Wakana (Patrick) Jackson, Kristan (Dave) Collins, and Shana Pitler; and thirteen great grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters in Japan, Kimie and Hanami.
He will be truly missed by everyone.
